Win, Nominations Milestones for The Virtual Stage

The Virtual Stage has been honored at the Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards in a milestone year with its production of The Birth of Freedom.

Produced by The Virtual Stage last spring, The Birth of Freedom was nominated for a total of three Jessies, winning one. Playwright and The Virtual Stage's Artistic Director Andy Thompson was nominated for 'Outstanding Original Play or Musical' and for the 'Sydney Risk Award for Outstanding Original Script from an Emerging Playwright'. The winner in both of those categories was The Virtual Stage Arts Society's Member-at-Large Drew McCreadie, for his absurdist, irreverent comedy The Cat Who Ate Her Husband. Colleen Wheeler was nominated and won the award for 'Outstanding Performance by an actress in a Supporting Role'. Itai Erdal, who designed the lights for The Birth of Freedom, won the 'Sam Payne Award for Most Promising Newcomer'.

This year's accolades mark the emergence of our young company on the Jessie Awards "radar", with only the second mainstage production in our history. Congratulations!
